When a Program Is Not a Program But Actually Is a Program

Michael Abramov and Theresa "Tree" Holland

Abstract
In a couple of branch libraries of the Austin Public Library, we've experienced a very positive, low cost way to engage customers of all ages with a STEM exhibit that is surprisingly interactive. By raising Monarch butterflies and releasing them in the wild, children of all ages are learning about this remarkable creature and its impact on the environment.

Let's Find out if They REALLY Got It: The Uses of Authentic Assessment in Library Instruction

Charles Allan

Abstract
This poster reviews the concept of authentic assessment, which is a tool to measure advanced research skills that cannot always be learned by students during one-shot library sessions. Using rubrics to assess students' use of sources in papers and projects, librarians can get better feedback about teaching methods.
